According to the manufacturing methods, metal-bonded grinding wheels can be divided into sintered metal-bonded grinding wheels, electroplating metal-bonded grinding wheels and single-layer brazed metal-bonded grinding wheels. Sintered metal bond grinding wheel is widely used, and electroplating metal bond wheel can only be used in situation of small grinding load. The C wheel is a new type of metal bond wheel under development.
Sintered metal bonded grinding wheel
The sintered metal bonded grinding wheel is made by a high-temperature sintering method with metal powder as binders. It has high bonding strength, good formability, high-temperature resistance, good thermal conductivity and wear resistance, long tool life, and can bear a large load.
Electroplating metal bonded grinding wheel
Electroplating metal bonded grinding wheels usually uses nickel or nickel bass alloy as coating metal. Due to its high precision, the electroplated grinding wheel is widely used in high-speed and ultra-high-speed precision grinding.
Single-layer brazed metal bond grinding wheel
In order to overcome the shortcomings of poor bonding strength and easy falling off of abrasive grains of electroplating metal bonded grinding wheel, it is necessary to increase the holding force of metal bond on abrasive grains and improve the bonding strength of the grinding wheel. In the early 1990s, the research on using brazing instead of electroplating to develop single layer high temperature brazed superhard abrasive wheel was started. The vacuum furnace brazing method of active filler metal and nickel-based filler metal is used to realize the solid combination of diamond and matrix, which greatly improves the strength, performance, and tool life.
